About me
I'm British and have been living overseas since 1998 when I took my first teaching job as Head of IT at St. Andrews International High School in Blantyre, Malawi.
After six happy years in the warm heart of Africa I moved to Beijing, China to take up a position as IT Coordinator at the Beijing BISS International School.
I stayed in China for the following four years before moving to Costa Rica where, as well as working at the British School of Costa Rica I met me wife Dani. We moved to South Africa in 2012 where I've been working at the American International School of Johannesburg as the Head of Social Studies, as a Technology Integration Coach and since July 2019 as the High School Assistant Principal.
I've owned the dendesigns.com domain since 2003 but I've been putting that name on things I've made since I was doodling on my exercise books back in primary school. The name's stuck and I kind of like the concept that I'm involved in my biggest design project ever; designing my life.
I'm a keen musician and play guitar, bass and harmonica. Music has taken me to some great places and introduced me to some of my favourite people. I enjoy that special connection that you get with people through music.
Another great passion of mine is the outdoors, by this I mean activities in the natural environment. I'm open to many varied experiences in the outdoors. From kayaking and sailing to hiking and wilderness camping, if it involves the open air and being at the mercy of nature then it suits me, even it that means just kicking back next to the campfire watching the stars.
